Giving Tuesday

Jasons Weems, a 2002 graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland wanted to share his story with you. “While in college I had the wonderful opportunity to serve as Mr. Morgan State University 2001-2002, where I spearheaded community service learning projects and became an ambassador for the University. Throughout my first three years I toured the country with Morgan State University’s world renowned choir and also served in the student government association as Mr. Freshman, Mr. Sophomore and Mr. Junior.”

“All this being said, none of it would have come to fruition if it had not been for the initial scholarship I received from Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Metropolitan Baltimore. It was the summer of 1998 and time was running out to attend school in the fall. Upon graduating from Dunbar High School the spring of 1998, I had my mind made up. I wanted to attend a Historical Black College and University (HBCU), stay close to home and go somewhere that the tuition was affordable. When I added up all of the variables, I came up with Morgan State University where my family legacy runs deep. Finally, I received word that I had been selected to receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,500.00 which would cover my first semester at least with a little money left over for my books. After, receiving the initial scholarship from the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Metropolitan Baltimore, there was no looking back. The Foundation gave me the key I needed to the door in which I was trying to so desperately enter.”

Surely you understand the need for the scholarship fund to continue from the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Metropolitan Baltimore. Our program has a 95% rate of graduation through our Scholarship and Mentorship program. Often, many of our young people have gone on to receive their masters and some a doctorate. We would like for you to ensure that our youth continue to receive a gift of life changing experiences by making a pledge of $100.00 or other amount towards cultivating our young men on Giving Tuesday, November 29, 2016.

We continue the mission of our programs to promote a climate of professionalism and teamwork that invites superior volunteer performance.  Your donation will help us continue the legacy to better the lives of individuals and their families.  So please, donate today.

Thank you in advance for your continued support,

Donald Malcolm Smith
